17th June 2010                                                                         Newsletter No: 35

Dear Parents/Carers,

Don’t forget mufti day tomorrow - please bring in a tombola prize - there will be a stall at the fair selling nearly new books and toys if you have any donations please bring in next Friday. I hope you are all coming to the Summer Fair at 5.30 p.m.

Iron Acton school pupils have certainly been in the news this week - both on the television and in the newspaper: Olivia singing at Race for Life, Izzy for helping to produce a film for children who are worried about radio therapy and Mya with her gym - well done everyone.

Thank you to all the pupils from year 1 and 2 who represented the school at the Sports festival at Bradley Stoke: I hear you were all very enthusiastic. A special well done to Ethan, who competed even though he has only just joined the school.

Year 6 and I had a brilliant week at camp. They were polite, well behaved, enthusiastic and good team players, a real credit to the school.

Kilve Court has sent details of activity weeks during the summer holidays. There are some subsidised places for families with low income. The leaflets are in the shelves opposite the office.

I hope everyone enjoyed move up morning last week, visiting their new teacher/class. The new Reception children seemed to have settled in very well.

It will be Open evening on 15th July 4-6 p.m. No appointments just a chance to look at the work your child has done this year and to visit the new classroom and teacher.

Class 2 will be performing their May pole dance at the Small school dance festival at Tortworth school next Wednesday afternoon. The brass band will be also be performing their fanfare. I hope lots of people will come and watch and please remember pack lunches are required for those pupils.

Don’t forget Christian Malcolm will be visiting the school on 21st June. Thank you to everyone who has already sent their forms back.

FRIENDS

The Friends would like to say a big thank you to Shelia Chapman and Hayley Whittle for their involvement on the May Day committee this year. By having 2 representatives from the school on the committee the school is eligible for a share of the profits from May Day. We don’t have a figure for 2010 yet, but in 2009 the school received £743.01 from the profits. However, both Shelia and Hayley are stepping down and so we are now looking for 2 new volunteers to be involved with the Iron Acton May Day committee. The committee meets every 3rd Wednesday in the month and organises activities for May Day on the village green. If you are interested and would like more information please speak to either Shelia or Hayley.

Friends are also looking for anyone employed by Hanson. We have been told that Hanson has a scheme to match funds raised by charities (up to £500), to be applied for by Hanson employees only. We would like to take advantage of this if possible and therefore ask if anyone associated with the school knows of anyone working for Hanson. There is no work involved for the employee as the Friends would provide everything that is needed. If anyone knows of anyone who could help us with this, please contact either Donna Thomas or Caroline Haselhan.
