25th February 2010                                                                        Newsletter No: 22

 Dear Parents/Carers,

We are in the process of setting up a texting system to parents/carers and need to decide technical issues. With the system we will be able to send a text to one person for each child providing you have a mobile phone or 1571 phone system. The system will be set up to send this to the mother unless the child lives with their father or grandmother. If you would prefer it to be sent to a different person please let us know. It is your responsibility to ensure we have up to date contact details. It is still early days so please bear with us as we iron out logistical problems.

I hope you all had a restful half term and enjoyed the Valentine disco.

It has been good to come back to the fun and excitement of book week. Story time evening went very well- thank you to Mrs Wright, Mr Hatherell, Mrs Spare and Mrs Haselhan for being our readers. Thank you to everyone who ran the book sale and to everyone who bought books. Tomorrow is the ever famous dressing up day – there has been lots of giggling and whispering going on so I imagine there are going to be some surprise costumes. Thank you to Mrs Kemp for organising the week. In this electronic age it is wonderful to see that children are still inspired and enthused by books.

Three of our year 5/6 boys - Alex, Charlie and Oliver – have been so inspired by the Alex Rider books that they have written their very own five page story entitled ‘Arachnophobia’.  If you want a thrilling read, just ask one of the boys or at the office and in return for a donation to charity you can have your very own copy.

We have been well represented in the local paper recently. Last week there was a lovely picture of class 2 celebrating Languages day. The previous week we were on the front cover when a local business woman presented the school with three bird boxes - Deb Turner has a pet food supply shop on Backwell trading estate and is well worth a visit.

On Tuesday the Primary Link teacher worked with ten volunteers from year 5/6 learning playground games. The leaders will now teach their games to other pupils at playtimes. Hopefully this will be a lot of fun and help those pupils who can’t find anything to do/anyone to play with at play time

Are you all aware of www.1bigdatabase.org.uk- it is a very useful site to find out about local events, support groups, child care, SEN ETC.?

Planning applications have now been submitted for rebuilding the wall and the field project. There are notices in the red notice boards telling you how to access more information.
