Reception- Listen to fairytales in the listening centre . Ginger bread man, red riding hood, three little pigs, billy goats gruff, sleeping beauty, goldilocks and the three bears. Non fiction- castle books, Writing opportunities: Long ship outlines for writing, William portraits, Posters calling soldiers to battle, Castle outlines, Building instructions, Castle plans, banquet menus, Invitations , Scrolls, Instructions to attack and defend, Gingerbread man goes missing from the oven-investigators, Wanted posters, Use puppets and props to renact a fairytale.

 

Phase 1 phonics-Find objects beginning with satpin sounds. Nursery rhyme sheet. Pass teddy around saying a next line to nursery rhyme. Cut out nursury rhyme pictures and arrange them in order. Discuss with a partner your weekend. Finish sentence. The dog is etc. What letter does your name begin with?

Phase 2 phonics-treasure hunt. Moody letters-say sounds in different ways. S-angry, sad, happy, excited. Give out 2 of each sound. Keep your sound a secret then become noisy letter and walk around garden area finding your partner. Give each pair a card with a letter sound on it. Collect as many objects as you can that begin with that letter. Timer to time. I spy with my little eye something that rhymes with... Snap cards- if two cards start with same letter say snap. Playdough-name. Look through newspapers for chosen letter. Kims games- What object is missing beginning with this sound card.

Phase 3 phonics- make a secret message using a newspaper. Put in bottle. Find name and stick on paper.

 

Y1- Phonics- ai, ay, a_e, ie, igh, i_e sounds. Phase 3, 4 and 5 tricky words.

Traditional stories- Read a selection of fairytale stories looking for patterns. Sequence fairy tales. Retell stories using puppets and props. Read the gingerbread man; bake a giant gingerbread man. On return to oven gingerbread man has disappeared leaving only crumbs. Start an investigation; create wanted posters, news report, map of any sightings,newspaper articles for fairyland news. Write own fairy tale.

Reception. Make boats- How many pennies to make the boat sink? Estimate then find out. Estimating number of ships in and soldiers in Williams army. More or less? Repeating pattern towers, Word problems on a castle theme, 2d and 3d shape castles, Pattern tapestries, Archery doubles-Using additions to score on archery, Measure height of castle walls, length of ladders, Capacity of oil in buckets, weight of catapult missiles, Humpty dumpty-position on the wall, Mr Wolf- Where is Mr Wolf hiding today, What's the time Mr Wolf? Use clocks outside. Walk forward if you get time correct., Problems solving- Which missile weights 10 cubes?, Make the kings bed outside. It needs to be one metre long and 30 centimetres wide. Use scrap store. Pictogram of favourite fairytale, Tally to tick off when in the role play area, Easter hunt with number clues, Cereal box-open up. What shapes can you see when the box is opened up. Colour in each shape. Can you know put the cereal box back together to create a 3d shape?, What shape is  it?, Number hunt outside- When you find a number tally it off on the chart, Numbers hidden in the sandcastle, Count the ships that pass by, Boat race- Who comes first, second, third?, Collect stones outside-who has more/less, Peg up the queens washing. How many items if one more item as pegged up? One is dry how many left wet?, Shells on sandcastle. Which sandcastle has more shells? Subtraction problems, Mud area outside- dig fro trenches/moats. How deep?, Shield-symmetry, Order castles from smallest to biggest, Days of the week in order. What day was it yesterday? Tomorrow? What days are the weekend?, Hide jewels outside. After a set time talk about treasure found. How might you count your jewels? How many jewels have you found?, Sieve for treasure-milk tops who has the most/least?, How many times can you bounce a ball in a min? Number track outside. 1 more/ 1 less. Roll a pebble on 2 numbers add or takeaway numbers. Write answer on playground. Measure playground-giant/fairy steps, Weaving numbers on fence.

Year one

Block C, D and E

Last night we received a message from the king. The soldiers tried to get over the walls of the castle. You need to make sure the castle wall is higher than the longest ladder. How can we do this? Use rulers/cubes to measure the length of the different ladders. How high will your wall need to be? Use outdoor materials. Which container will hold the most oil? Black food colouring. Show the catapult and plasticine missiles. Explain that they have been dropped and muddled up. You need to find the one that weighs 10 cubes. How could you do this? Estimate which you think will be the heaviest. Weigh and check on the scales. Record on sheet. Solve problem- message from the queen. Last night my horse was misbehaving and knocked down my big bed. I would be very grateful if you could build me another bed then take a photo and send it to me. The queens bed must be 2 metres long and 1 metre wide. How big would the bed be if you used your feet to measure the wood to build the bed? How big would the bed be if you used your Miss Brewer’s foot to measure?

Priced toys in castle museum. Look at change from 10p, 20p.Castle word problems. Problem solving worksheet . You are the captain of the ship. Open the envelope to read the task.
